No ATA workday Tuesday July 1st, 2025 and, Spring/Summer Summary

Hello AORA/ATA/MDG Volunteers and Supporters,

It was just brought to my attention that I failed to notify everyone that there is no workday this week as we have officially wrapped up our tremendously successful spring season.

The Curtz Lake Interpretive Trail is now back to being a friendly 1.1 mile hike and the gates will be opening soon. We are working with BLM to restore some or all of the old duplicate interpretive signs. Although several will seem oddly out of place with the changes the fire brought we feel they will provide a fascinating look back on the area before the Tamarack Fire came through.

We also spent time on lower Thornburg Canyon Trail, Charity Valley Trail, and upper Burnside Lake Trail this spring keeping the post fire growth and dead treefall clear of the trail corridors.

In other news, the proposal for the new disc golf course out near Grover Hot Springs is moving along nicely. The USFS has now officially accepted our proposal and is working out a timeline for the remaining requirements for final approval and issuing of the special use permit.

Just because our spring season has come to a close does not mean we are idle. Planning, meetings, events, and high elevation trail workdays will keep us busy through the summer.

Save the date for Saturday July 19th for our annual Picnic in the Park. The public event begins at 11:00 am in the Library Park. Lunch is provided. Anyone and everyone interested in trails and disc golf in our area are encouraged to attend this informal, informational, fun gathering of outdoor enthusiasts. We all hope to see you there.

Beyond that we will have several spontaneous workdays this summer. We will keep an eye on the weather and when cool conditions make trail work more tolerable we will schedule days on upper Thornburg, Charity, and Burnside, and PoPo Trails. There will only be a few days notice for these workdays, and they could fall on any day of the week, so maybe they’ll work for you and maybe not, but we hope everyone has an opportunity to get out and join us for at least one of these high alpine trail days this summer.

Thanks again and please join us on the 19th to learn more about the Alpine Trails Association and Markleeville Disc Golf. —
